Two by Two: Two Gorgeous Covers, Two Unread Books On My TBR

Hello Everyone,

I have two books on my tbr and both covers look almost exactly alike and (shocking I know) I haven’t read either one of them!

First up is The Beautiful Ones by Silvia Moreno Garcia. I have heard mostly good things about this book, but a small few negative reviews here and there. I hope to start this one on my kindle tomorrow!

Such a beautiful cover! 🥰

Goodreads Summary:

From the New York Times bestselling author of Mexican Gothic comes a sweeping romance with a dash of magic.

They are the Beautiful Ones, Loisail’s most notable socialites, and this spring is Nina’s chance to join their ranks, courtesy of her well-connected cousin and his calculating wife. But the Grand Season has just begun, and already Nina’s debut has gone disastrously awry. She has always struggled to control her telekinesis—neighbors call her the Witch of Oldhouse—and the haphazard manifestations of her powers make her the subject of malicious gossip.

But great romances are for fairytales, and Hector is hiding a truth from Nina—and himself—that threatens to end their courtship before it truly begins. The Beautiful Ones is a charming tale of love and betrayal, and the struggle between conformity and passion, set in a world where scandal is a razor-sharp weapon.

When entertainer Hector Auvray arrives to town, Nina is dazzled. A telekinetic like her, he has traveled the world performing his talents for admiring audiences. He sees Nina not as a witch, but ripe with potential to master her power under his tutelage. With Hector’s help, Nina’s talent blossoms, as does her love for him.

The above sounds so good! (Though I admit, I haven’t read Mexican Gothic yet either lol) Then, there’s The Lost Jewels by Kirsty Manning.

Another gorgeous cover, but I prefer the one above, I think.

Here’s the Goodreads Summary for this one:

From the author of The Song of the Jade Lily comes a thrilling story of a family secret that leads to a legendary treasure.

Why would someone bury a bucket of precious jewels and gemstones and never return?

Present Day. When respected American jewelry historian, Kate Kirby, receives a call about the Cheapside jewels, she knows she’s on the brink of the experience of a lifetime.

But the trip to London forces Kate to explore secrets that have long been buried by her own family. Back in Boston, Kate has uncovered a series of sketches in her great-grandmother’s papers linking her suffragette great-grandmother Essie to the Cheapside collection. Could these sketches hold the key to Essie’s secret life in Edwardian London?

In the summer of 1912, impoverished Irish immigrant Essie Murphy happens to be visiting her brother when a workman’s pickaxe strikes through the floor of an old tenement house in Cheapside, near St. Paul’s Cathedral in London. The workmen uncover a stash of treasure—from Ottoman pendants to Elizabethan and Jacobean gems—and then the finds disappear again! Could these jewels—one in particular—change the fortunes of Essie and her sisters?

Together with photographer Marcus Holt, Kate Kirby chases the history of the Cheapside gems and jewels, especially the story of a small diamond champlevé enamel ring. Soon, everything Kate believes about her family, gemology, and herself will be threatened.

Based on a fascinating true story, The Lost Jewels is a riveting historical fiction novel that will captivate readers from the beginning to the unforgettable, surprising end.

Both of these have been on my tbr radar for some time. I hope to pick up one tomorrow and fly right through it! Let me know what you think about these books in the comments!

Last of the Year: TBR

Hello friends,

I have several books on my radar that I’m attempting to squeeze into the last two months of the year, in order to reach my goal of 250 books on Goodreads, the highest amount of books read in the year that I’ve ever attempted. I’m four books AHEAD of schedule, so that’s good at least, but I’d like to be done before the end of this month.

Goodreads Stats: 218/250

Which means that I have 32 books remaining. I’m choosing the top books on my radar to get through, and crossing my fingers that I can get through them. That’ my goal. These are all books that I somehow missed in the last year. These books are from these categories: Library Ebooks, Arcs, Best Sellers, Gifts/Loans, Library Requested, Blogger Rec’d, YouTube favs, and so on. I’ve pulled books from so many different places, and I’m hoping to get to every last one of these, and not continue with the dreadful reading slump of the previous two months! Here’s to fingers crossed, and the books listed below:

If there are duplicates, apologies, as this was a hastily thrown together post. I have another post coming of all the arcs that are due on Netgalley + Edelweiss, which I think will wind up being a 2-parter. Have y’all read any of these books? Let me know in the comments!

Until next time, and good luck to all our TBRs at the end of the year,

TBR Thursday: My, What a Pile of Books!

How can another week of November be almost gone already? I didn’t read anything this week, due to it being NaNo (I breached 50k and reached close to 65k despite it being the beginning of the month because I can’t sleep and that gives me way more time to write, so finished NaNo early, yay!) but this next week, boy do I have a lot of catching up to do!

I have reviews that are due:

Just Approved Edelweiss Arcs:

ARCs Coming Via Mail:

New Releases to Catch Up On:

And several other arcs from Netgalley, library books, and random other books that I’ve purchased as well! I’ve quite a bit of catching up to do, not the least bit which includes the entire Invisible Library series! I’m overwhelmed but pleased with the arcs that I’ve gotten, and really hope to finish all of these before the reviews are due!

What are you all reading at the moment? Anything good? Let me know in the comments!

Until next time,

WWW Wednesday| New ARCs!

Welcome to WWW Wednesday! This meme was formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm where I’m hoping to start doing this kind of thing more often. This is one where you answer the three questions:

What are you currently reading?

What did you recently finish reading?

What do you think you’ll read next?

~*~

Currently Reading, well I’m fixing to start reading the entire Invisible Library series in anticipation of the newest arrival.

Invisible Library Series{picture from pinterest}

I’ve read the first one, but haven’t read ANY of the rest of the series, so I should spend at least three days flying through the series to read the latest book.

Recently Finished, is Heart’s Abroad, which was a solid 4/5 stars. It hasn’t put me in a slump, I’m just away from all my books at the moment! (denial)

Reading Next, uh. Well clearly the Invisible Libraries is up next, but after that I think I’m going to be reading between these three choices:

That’s what I have planned, anyway. I have so many books on my TBR right now, that I’m beginning to get into panic mode, wondering how I’ll possibly finish these before the end of the year. I’ve been in a bit of a slump since the beginning of the week, and haven’t read hardly anything this whole month so far, which is disappointing, but I’ve been reading so much lately too that the break is a bit nice and relaxing.

But those are my plans, and I hope all of you are doing well for the month of November (remember, remember, the fifth of November-stop it brain. We cannot read Fawkes for the third time!). Let me know if you’ve read any of these, and what your book plans are in the comments, will you, because I’m curious to see how everyone else is handling their tbr piles!

Until next time,

Anticipated Reads: My TBR Hates Me

Last night I was procrastinating in writing for NaNoWriMo (of course) and browsed Amazon for any new and upcoming releases that I wasn’t aware of yet, because I’d been putting off doing that and I actually have Wi-Fi at the moment. Turns out, there’s a LOT of books coming out that I can’t wait to get my hands on. After doing this, I’ll post the books on my Anticipated Reads page-sometime soon-but I felt this would be a fun post! On to the books!

So many pretties! Some of the covers are just breathtaking, and I want them, I want them now! Sadly, I will have to wait, as only a few are out on pre-order, and even then I’d still have to wait after pre-ordering too. My shelves won’t thank me for this, but a lot of these are absolute must-have’s due to the authors being my most favorite authors.

What are your upcoming anticipated reads? Anything fantasy that I didn’t catch? Let me know in the comments!

Until next time,

September TBR: New Releases + ARCS!

This month is all about reading new books. My libraries (I have two, because I alternate between two different places) have new releases that I’ve been dying to read, and a few I’ve put off reading until the sequels are out, so now I have no excuse, and am eagerly going to be reading these gorgeous beauties!

My Ambitious TBR Pile:

Now, will I be able to read all of these? I really rather doubt it. I might manage, if I keep up the pace, and don’t loose focus. These are also just a handful of books that I really want to read, some of them at least over 500+pages! I sincerely hope that I can get through these, and not lose interest like I’ve been doing here lately (rather a lot, actually).

So those are most of the books that I’m definitely wanting to knock out of my TBR pile for the month of September. A few of them are quite fitting for this month with horror or fall related themes. See if you can guess which ones!

Until next time,
