Update: Brief Hiatus

Hello Everyone,

I haven’t been posting because I had to put my oldest kitty to sleep. I have been reading but reviews have slowed. I hope to get back into blogging soon. Thank you all for your patience and understanding. Kitty was a girl named CC (for calico cat) and she was 20 years old. She was last of her litter and could no longer control her bladder and was in far too much pain. She has passed away and I am upset. I’ve had that cat even during my teens. I’m sorry, but I hope soon I will return to blogging. Thank you.

Until next time,

Brief Hiatus Over: Apologies That I Was Gone a Bit!

Hello Everyone,

I’ve been gone most of this month and for that I apologize. I still somehow managed to get followers though so welcome new people! I hope you all enjoy my content and any suggestions you have that you’d like to see on my blog, please comment down below and I’ll see what I can do.

I left briefly because of all the things: heat wave in Missouri is awful, Roe Vs Wade being overturned, I was ill briefly (just a minor bug I still thankfully don’t have Covid), and stress. So. Much. Stress.

So I took a brief break, gathered a few new reviews that I hope to post soon, a few discussion posts, and some random other things too including my monthly wrap up and next month tbr!

I’m going to try to start posting once a day. I may post more than once sometimes but I am easing back into my regular posting schedule. I hope everyone is doing okay and that they’ve had a successful reading month.

Until next time,

Discussion: WordPress Upgrade and What I Think So Far Of These Blocks

Hello Everyone,

I’m going to be honest here-I am so far not a fan of the new update. It’s challenging in figuring out how to use it, and I’m struggling with updating my blog for the new year. I’m sure a few of you have tested it out so far as well. Let me know your thoughts in the comments. Approve? Disapprove? Most seem to be violently against it. I’m trying to remain neutral so far, but I admit.

This is hard.

Writing posts appears to be easy enough. I’ve figured that out mostly so my content can keep coming. But the widgets area? Yeah. That’s a pain. I’m still struggling on updating a lot of those widgets on my sidebar. Fyi, please click “desktop site” to view that and you can follow my blog easier that way too (shameless plug, I know, I know lol).

There’s also these group images. See I’m going to do in examples of what I’ve been doing. I click on the little blue plus symbol for the things I need. Then I click group, and I can do a double shot at once of pictures. Make sure you unclick the “crop image” and voila! Or you can just do a single imagine at a time. This bit? Easy enough to understand.

Then there’s the columns. How on earth do you do those? I’ve been struggling with that a lot so here’s a little test run:

Ignore the mess!

Yeah not really showing up as columns like others have it are they? 🤔 I’m struggling in figuring all this out and that’s been primarily on why my posts have slowed way down. I still do WWW Wednesday, and wrap ups and tbrs. But otherwise? I’m behind on a lot that I want to post and share.

So.

I’m asking others that read this-what’s your experience so far with blogging on the new platform? Is there any advice or articles that helps explain some of these “blocks”? I’m really wanting all of you to chime in and tell me your honest opinion-good, bad whatever. I’m curious to see people’s reaction.

Until next time,

Monday Update: What I’ve Been Reading

Hello Everyone,

Image from Pexels.com

I’ve not posted the past couple of days, though I will soon post a handful of reviews on the books I’ve read. I have been reading and struggling with reaching my Goodreads goal of 200 books and I’m so close. Only ten books away! Anyway, here’s what’s coming for reviews:

Books Read:

Empress of a Thousand Skies by Rhoda Belleza

City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab

Upcoming Reads:

The Last Legacy by Adrianne Young

The Waning Age by SE Grove

The Beautiful by Renee Ahdieh

~•~•~•~

If there’s books you think I’d like or you want to see reviews of, feel free to suggest them in the comments! I’m hoping to expand my reviews and content for my blog and I also want to increase the number of reviews that I have. I really do appreciate each comment and like left by all of you so don’t be shy! Let me know where I can improve or what you hope to see here more often!

Discussion: Growing Your Blog

Hey everybody,

I’ve been attempting to fix all my old blog posts so you might have noticed some changes. At some point I’m going to have to sit and figure out a way to make my website easy to read for both my laptop and my phone. I use it on my phone more and am realizing it’s not what it could be in terms of easy access. Hopefully I can get all this fixed soon. But I am discussing today blog growth!

I’ve been blogging for SIX YEARS now and have 300 followers.

In the grand scheme of things that’s not a lot, and while I’m happy at all the new faces, I seriously need to step it up a notch. These are the tactics that I learned to help me get those followers:

Follow for follow, comment for comment, have a beautiful Instagram, have a prolific Pinterest account, write up guest posts on other blogs/bring in a guest to your blog, hold a contest, publish great content, be more social & write ten posts a day.

Now I don’t know about y’all, but all that work seems ridiculous. There MUST be an easier way to generate more traffic, more followers, and grow your blog as high as you possibly can. I’m overall lazy. I know that’s not a good quality, but again. There must be an easier way. I’m also not the most social of creatures and I fight just to keep up with commenters on my blog. All this work just to make a name for yourself? Ridiculous.

And there’s others out there who cheat and pay for their blogs to gain all the followers. I don’t know about y’all but I have zero funds. Covid, medical health care, and bills take up more than all my money. Not to mention education and what remains I use to buy books and a subscription for KU (Kindle Unlimited).

If you are looking for me to tell you an easier way-I’m going to be honest and say I have no idea what easier way there is. You are going to fight to make your blog stand out. It’s going to be hard. Your going to whine and complain and feel like you don’t want this anymore because it’s too hard. Or you can also easily get burnout like I did.

I have advice though!

Don’t give up. I spent a year away from my blog and yet IT STILL GREW. I know it’s hard, believe me we’ve all been there. But eventually you’ll bypass the hundred followers mark. Soon you will get to the thousands. You just need to be patient and stick with it.

Research, ask around, make friends, watch countless how to videos, learn

I spent a lot of time scratching at Google for tips, ideas, tricks. I talked to other book bloggers that had way more experience than me. I wrote reviews that were both good and bad and I learned more than I thought I ever would.

The community makes it worth it.

The people here are amazing and supportive and the best! You’ll make new friends and find people read as much as you if not more so. Growth may happen but don’t be upset if it takes a while. Even if it takes a year or years, you need to be patient and stick with it. Keep growing content. Keep being strong.

You’ll get there.

Until next time,

Discussion: Making Ten Posts a Day

Hello all,

In researching how to grow content I came across usual tips such as write more and post often but one caught me off guard.

Make ten posts a day.

A day.

Ten.

I’ve been in a hiatus the last year, and going from nothing to ten posts a day seems rather… excessive.

Granted, sure, you’d generate content but would it be good content? I like making one post per day before the hiatus and I try for quality rather than quantity. I want my blog not only to look nice but to showcase my work well!

I can’t begin to imagine making ten posts a day. Would y’all like me making ten posts a day? Or just one to three posts every few days?

What do y’all think? Be sure to tell me in the comments because I genuinely want to know your thoughts on this!

Discussion: That Darn Blogging Slump

Hello all,

So, I have been stressed out and struggling with making new posts for my blog. Y’all may have noticed I was gone for almost a year on an unexpected Hiatus. But I’m struggling in coming back especially since I somehow increased in followers despite my being gone. 🤔

First thanks for all those who stuck around and also hello new followers! We’re almost nearing three hundred! Awesome!

Back to the slump!

I have spent some time figuring out what I want to accomplish and what I NEED to achieve with my blog. I used a lot of helpful resources on Google that really helped me figure out what I want to do. Here’s my goals:

∆ post more reviews

∆ make those lists for the topics I’ve been meaning to (safe LGBT books that aren’t full of triggers for example)

∆ engage with other bloggers (I’m really not much of a social person but I try)

∆ link those book reviews to publishers/authors/etc

∆ make a fully comprehensive list of trigger warnings, tag books that are NOT just mainstream traditional publishing but also indie and books on KU

∆ fully integrate all my wishlists onto Goodreads

∆ interview other bloggers, authors, and others

Now a lot of that I need a computer but don’t currently have wifi which has been my main problem! I’m doing all this by phone! So if you have advice I would love you to comment below!

I’m sincere in making more posts and stepping my toes back into blogging. I have missed it but this past year has been rough as I’m sure all of you feel the same. I still am learning all about blogging and it feels that I will always be learning something new. I’m grateful for all of you helping me out along the way. This community has been awesome and that’s one major reason miss blogging.

Thank you,

New Year, New Look, New Style

Hey,

It’s been a few months since I’ve been bloggin’, I know. I had some close to me deaths. Grandfather passed from cancer. It was rough. Then a few months later, a close friend of the family also passed. Again from cancer but a different kind. We knew it was coming, but that doesn’t make it any easier for both of those people we cared about.

So I apologize for my absence. I got a lot of catching up to do. Shit’s changed, and I’m WAY behind on reviews to the point I don’t think I will ever catch up. Sure, I still posted vaguely to twitter and Goodreads, but otherwise?

All was quiet on the western front.

It’s been rough, but I’m eager to get back to it. New year, new look, new style. I’m trying to learn more HTML. By the way?

This blog is run by ONE PERSON. Not many all at once. I do all the html editing, I write the reviews, I read the books, I do the emails…a lot of work, pride, and joy goes into this blog. I spent years working on it. Sure, I might go quiet now and again, but that’s because real life sucks. It’s why I escape into books to begin with.

So I apologize for my long absence, friends. I appreciate all those who stuck with me, through and thin. I was gone almost half a year from my blog, longer than what I’d done previously. I will make up for it.

And for all those politics going on? This blog is meant as a safe haven away from that sort of thing. Reading is an escape. It’s entertainment. Its fun and rewarding. Please keep your political thoughts and feelings off this blog. That’s all I ask. Thanks.

So, let’s pick up where we left off, shall we?

And make this blog into something stupendeous!

(As far as book blogs go anyway, lol.)

Blog Update: Merry Christmas!

Hello friends,

Merry Christmas to all. I hope everyone is having a delightful holiday. If you’re one who doesn’t celebrate the holidays, then I hope you’re day is going well. I’ve updated my blog, so that it’s easier to read and navigate. I’ll be making more changing, as I figure out what I want my blog to look like, apart from neat, clean and organized.

Next year Goals:

*Read 500 books

*Post more reviews

*Knock down that TBR cart from 8000 to 5000

*Clean out my shelves

*Organize

*Learn more complicated HTML

*Link EVERYTHING

And that’s all that I have so far. I’m hoping to get more productive next year in reading as well, and not have a huge reading slump again. The writing bug bit me hard towards the last half of 2019. I’m hoping it won’t be that way for next year. I might have to hide my computer, in order to read more than write, lol.

But that’s all I have to update y’all on.

Happy holidays,

About PassMeThatBook

Welcome to Pass Me That Book!

It’s been an interesting six years since I started this blog back in March 2015. I’ve learned a lot about blogging and while I don’t have a huge audience in the thousands, 300 followers is not a bad number either. I’m constantly looking to grow and change my blog, and am now in the process of updating it from the beginning.

A few things about me: l read a lot. But I don’t always review what I read especially lately with how busy things are. I prefer fiction but I will attempt the odd non fiction now and again. I’m partial to fantasy, romance, sci-fi, and suspense. I adore a good Stephen King novel or an Agatha Christie comfort read.

I’d love to see new people here, and I am always open for chatting anytime. Just feel free to hit that comment button or the follow button as it helps me out a ton. Thank you for dropping by and I hope you enjoy what you see here!

Until next time,
