April Mid-month Check In: 20 Books Read(!)

Hello Everyone,

As I’ve begun increasing my read tbr by the month I decided I needed to get to do mid month wrap ups. I’m trying hard to keep up my reading pace, but also not forcing myself into a slump by not wanting to read. Thanks to the holiday weekend, I’ve managed to read a bit more than usual and I’m surprisingly keeping the slump back by reading small things here and there. I’ve managed 20 books! And it’s only mid April! I’ve read a lot of really good books this month. A handful I want to buy they were that good! Let’s dive in shall we?

Look at me, reading huge 900+ page books! I’m going to hopefully manage to get another big batch of books before the end of the month. I couldn’t get images for every book I read, unfortunately. But I did get the biggest ones.

My favorite books of the month? You’ve Lost a Lot of Blood, These Silent Woods, and Traitors Blade.

My least favorite books? The Best of All Possible Worlds, Hunting Game, and The Circus Infinite.

Biggest Book Read? Shadowmarch by Tad Williams 900 pages

Smallest Book Read: You’ve Lost a Lot of Blood

Discussion: Quitting Social Media For a Month(!)

Hello Everyone,

Lately it feels like I’ve not been reading as much as I have been. And my blog (not to mention Netgalley) is suffering from it. I’ve been on YouTube, Twitter, Instagram-doing everything BUT reading and it shows. I barely managed to read 22 books and at least eight of them I dnf’d!

This brings me to my idea. A month where I put my phone down and read. I don’t really watch a lot of tv-mostly just YouTube. I’m going to avoid all that, and ignore my laptop too. At the end of each week, I can have my laptop for a day. But my phone stays on my bookshelf to be ignored.

My goal is to read 50 books in a month. Normally I average about 20. I really want to double that number at the very least. Starting tomorrow at the beginning of March, bye-bye social media. My exceptions for my phone? Phone calls from family, checking on my buddy reads on Twitter (briefly!) and using my laptop to write a review when I finish reading the book. That’s it.

That means no games. No YouTube. No Twitter. I have Hoopla on my phone and I will read the books that I have on it. Otherwise? I’m to avoid my phone 24/7.

Then, when April rolls around (how can April be here already?!?) I take a look at my stats and see how I did. If I reach my goal…well, I’m still thinking about rewards. Ideas would be welcomed.

Hopefully this whole plan works. Otherwise I’m going to scream into the abyss lol.

So. I’ll be posting more reviews. And that’s about all I’m allowed. (And WWW Wednesday of course.) Otherwise. I’m going quiet y’all. Wish me luck! 🤞

Until next time,

March 2022 TBR: Can I Read 50 Books In A Month?

Hello Everyone,

So I’ve got a big goal for March. I’m already behind on my Goodreads tbr goal. Not badly, maybe 15 books behind schedule. But this month? I’m issuing a challenge to myself to read 50 books. What books might those be? Well, the last tbr is still on my “must reads” but I have other new ones added. Sit back, relax, and prepare for scrolling through my stack of books!

Such an ambitious pile, as always but I think that this is my biggest yet! (I could be wrong lol.) I’m definitely looking forward to The Poppy War, Vita Nostra, Light From Uncommon Stars, and Brandon Sanderson Way of Kings. Many of these look so good! Tell me which ones you think I should prioritize because I could definitely use the help! 😆

I hope everyone else has a great month in March. Stay safe out there everyone!

Until next time,

WWW Wednesday: What’s New, What’s Old, What’s Read

Hello Everyone,

I skipped last week’s www because I hadn’t read but one book and I was in a hefty slump. Cue after that me picking up all the books and reading a lot over last week and actually posting reviews too! I know, right, who am I? Anyway. Let’s dive in shall we?

What did I finish reading?

I read so many good things last week! It’s nice to actually see more than just one or two finished books! My top favorites are The Border Keeper and Across the Green Grass Fields. My least favorite and perhaps biggest disappoinment tied between Moon of the Crusted Snow and Avalon. I was most surprised by Kanada which had me sobbing my eyes out but it was so beautifully written! The Cat and the Monk is an award winner and has such a lovely artwork and story in it. Overall a successful reading week!

What am I currently reading?:

I have all these as my physical books, and I am finally starting Children of Time which is easily 600+ pages. Hopefully it’ll be a fast read! I also have these on my kindle that I’m fixing to read too:

A buddy read, a couple arcs and a library loan on my kindle. I’m hoping to get through these as well as the others this next week too.

What will I be reading next?

These are my potential next reads. Nothing firm, just a few ideas that I have in mind for upcoming reviews. I’ve wanted to read Vita Nostra for forever and a day. Same for the others here. I hope everyone else is having a good reading week!

Until next time,

WWW Wednesday: Another 4 Books Read

Hello Everyone,

Last week I managed four books. I had a bit of a reading slump but also I just haven’t felt like reading. My Goodreads goal says that I’m five books behind schedule. Yikes! 😳

I hope to get some reading done today, and then there’s lots of time this weekend too. I should easily get caught up to schedule. Anyways, here’s what I have managed to read.

What have I finished reading?:

Z for Zachariah is a beloved reread, and I also learned it was a movie from Sundance. The movie did an admirable job but I still like the book better. 5/5 ⭐❤️

The Marsh Queen was a Netgalley arc, RTC to come but I wound up dnf’ing it. Beautiful writing but I was still so bored by the 50% and just decided to call it quits. 2/5 ⭐

The Ocean Was Our Sky was in relation to Moby Dick. I wanted to like it but I just had no connection to this at all. Moby Dick is a great classic and this tried but failed to capture me. I dnf’d. Beautiful artwork though! 2.5/5 ⭐

And finally. The graphic novel The Best We Could Do. I wanted to love this so much. But it started with a detailed woman giving birth and a c section was involved and it just was not what I was expecting at all. I generally don’t mind pregnancies that get complicated but I SO wasn’t in the mood for such. Gorgeous, stunning artwork. But I’m setting this aside for later. So technically not a dnf, just… not reading this now.

What am I currently reading?:

Ugh, technically nothing. I haven’t picked up a book in about four days now. But here’s where I am in my current reads. I’ll be so glad when I finally finish Jade City!

I’m setting aside Jade City. My buddy had to return her copy to the library and we got to about 200 pages. So temporarily on hold.

Then I’m also in the middle of this beast of a book:

This is almost eight hundred pages!

I’m about one hundred pages. There’s a lot to process here. It’s good writing and I’m enjoying it so far. But I’m pausing on this so that I can focus on something that’s not so hefty and I can think about this book for a while. (I still just LOVE that cover!)

Now these are what I am thinking about-for no particular reason-reading tonight:

I’m leaning most towards the Circus Rose because it’s a novel in verse. That should go by fast. And I also really really really want to read The City of Brass. I’ve put it off so long. I also want to read Red Rising to get caught up on the series but that’s a maybe. The rest are also maybes.

What am I thinking of reading next?:

Well I’ve still got Jade City and Glory Season, obviously. But there’s also these that I’m eyeing that I’ve put off for a couple years:

I’m serious about tackling my backlog. If only these stupid reading slumps would leave me alone lol. I’m hoping these will help against my reading slump. I’ve requested them from the library, now I’m just waiting for them to show up. But those are my current reading plans. Hopefully by next week I’ll be ahead on my Goodreads goal!

Until next time,

WWW Wednesday: I read 11 Books for the Start of 2022

Hello everyone,

It’s my first WWW Wednesday of this year! I’m happy to report that my reading has been going amazingly well! So many great books and already two that I think are the best books I’ve read yet! Let’s dive right into it shall we?

What did I finish reading?

This was a dnf at forty percent. I tried but I just wasn’t hooked as much as I’d hoped to be! 3 ⭐
5 ⭐! Glorious! Awe inspiring perfection! This is so far my most favorite read of the year!!! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
I hadn’t realized this was a kids book but it had a good message and lovely artwork. 5 ⭐
5 ⭐!!! Such a cool concept and such tension! 💜
This was okay. I may need a reread to fully think my rating over. 3 ⭐
2 ⭐. Dnf. The pacing for this was weak and I didn’t much like the characters. Interesting concept for the bad guy though. Not terrible writing but definitely needs an editor. Kindle freebie I got years ago and read on a whim.
5 ⭐! This was way better than I thought it would be! I adore Scottish mysteries though the ending felt abrupt this was still quite fun!

~•~•~•~•~

What am I currently reading?

Not a lot at the moment. I still have my Jade City buddy read going. I’m at page 82 and nowhere close to halfway lol. I also have these I’m reading:

What am I reading next?

I honestly have no idea. I’m trying to get books that have been on my tbr a while, even as I mix it with new releases to keep things fresh. Aside from Jade City, I’m mood reading right now before I start seriously tackling my enormous arc pile on Netgalley! February is going to be the start of my #ArcApocalypse again I think. Still feeling things out as I don’t want to have as many slumps as I did last year. This year I plan on doing things a bit different. WWW Wednesday once a month, maybe. And more book reviews. I’m still organizing. I also got a new phone so I have been transferring everything too which is fun…so many things to do! I hope everyone has been reading well at the start of the new year.

Google Tells Me What to Read: Top Fantasy Books of 2021

Hello Everyone,

I decided to try a fun thing where Google tells me what to read for a week. I have most of these but a couple of them I may need to request from my local library or see if it’s available on kindle unlimited. I hope to finish all these in a week! Wish me luck!

Monthly TBR/ArcApocalypse : Take Two

Welcome to my second month in doing Arc Apocalypse, with thanks to @Destiny from Howling Destinies for the use of such. I’m not doing an official arc ban, like she is, however, I have calmed down considerably in requesting arcs. This month, I have an actual TBR arc pile that I’d like to get through. I’m aware that it’s already a week into August, but I really don’t care. I’m determined in reading through more arcs. I’ve gotten two down, out of the almost three hundred on my pile, so that’s a smidge better, lol. Here are the arcs I’m hoping to knock out in August:

If I finish these nine, then excellent progress. I’m excited for all of these, but I think I’m most excited for The Bone Shard Daughter and The Forgotten Kingdom. Have you read any of these? Let me know in the comments! Further progress to be made throughout the month. This isn’t the only TBR post that I have either. I’ve also got a few other books on my radar:

Between those four, I’ve also got going on:

The Mercy Thompson Series by Patricia Briggs-currently on book five, and I ought to finish out the series by the end of the month

The Dresden Files Series-I’m currently on book six, and I hope to do a serious binge read of the series for one weekend, completing up the series except for Peace Talks and Battle Ground which I don’t have copies of yet.

Elantris by Brandon Sanderson-I’m on a serious Brandon Sanderson kick, as you can probably tell. I recently re-read book one The Way of Kings, and really hope to get caught up before book Four comes out…whenever that will be.

And that’s all I’ve got so far for this month, in terms of what I’m reading! If you have any suggestions, do let me know.  I’m curious to hear what all of you are reading for this month. Also, this is the month before my birthday on September first, so super hyped about that!

Until next time,

Blog Update: I failed Arc Apocalypse

Well, Arc Apocalypse was a complete and utter failure.  Have I read any arcs? No. But that doesn’t mean that I hadn’t gotten lots of reading done. I did reading for  a few different readathons, as well as The Reading Rush which literally just started. Here are the upcoming posts that I hope to have before the end of the month:

  • The Reading Rush Conclusion
  • Readathons Updates
  • Monthly Wrap Ups (I’m behind)
  • Monthly TBR for August
  • Several Book Reviews Behind  That I’m Behind Schedule
  • Another Arc Update

I apologize for the unexpected hiatus; I haven’t been able to get online, despite the amount that I’ve read. I’ m hoping to return to regular scheduled posts before too long, and continue where I left off.

I’ve also made some site improvements. New banner, new background, and updated my “currently reading” post on the side. There are a few more things I’d like to update on the blog eventually, such as my TBR pile, along with other things that I’ve been putting off.

Hope everyone is staying safe and reading plenty of good books.

Until next time,

Announcement: #ARCApocalypse!

Hello Friends,

Starting this month, I will be attempting to read more arcs than finished copies. I’ve about 300 in my inbox from Netgalley, and about 60 in Edelweiss. I barely frequent Edelweiss these days, but I would still like to get that number down to zero in terms of reviews due.

So, my solution was to borrow @Destiny’s Arc Apocalypse, which she kindly gave permission in my doing last month. Thank you, Destiny! This will hopefully help in keeping up with arcs, and posting reviews on a more frequent basis. I will have a TBR set up soon, along with more information. If you’d like to join in, please do!

I’ve been really busy lately, but I’m struggling in posting on a regular schedule. If I don’t post tomorrow, be aware that it will be soon!
