January TBR 2023: Can I Read 50 Books in a Month?!

Happy New Year!!! 🥳🎉🥳

If you saw that I have a huge challenge to Read My Shelf down a hundred books, then you’ll know I’m going to put in serious effort in making that goal happen. I used to read hefty amounts as a kid. I could easily manage 50 small chapbooks a month. But nowadays, it’s harder to focus and concentrate. I’m hoping that this is the year of reading and making my goal to read 500 books for 2023 happen! I’ve tried making that goal before, but always wound up only reading 200/250 books. This year I barely scrapped 300. I’m a fast reader. I love reading. But depression, anxiety and stress has made reading a challenge. I’m trying to get back into it and crossing my fingers this year wins!

My Big Priority Reads:

There are a few books that I haven’t gotten to the past few years that I’ve been putting off. Here are my top fifteen!

The Dragon Republic I put off long enough, along with Theft of Swords and Song of Achilles. All of these are books I’ve been dying to get to, but just pushed off for some reason or other.

Series Continuation:

Likewise, here are ten series that I’m hoping to get through!

Several of these I’ve started but dnf’d for now. Storm Front I’m at book six. (I think.) A few I have but never cracked open like Lamora and Abercrombie. I very much want to get through these!

Other Priorities:

Huge stacks of unread books, but these aren’t as much of a priority as the others apart from the “clear your shelf” challenge I have going on. I’m serious about reading more than just 20/25 (rarely 30) books a month. I know for a lot of you that’s a lot but for me, it’s really not. I miss reading and I hope, along with the rest of you that also suffer slumps, can get back into reading for 2023.

Here’s to a happy new year!

Until next time,

Netgalley November 2022 TBR: Random, Popular, and Overdue Books

Hello Everyone,

I’m participating in Netgalley November, and I have a vague tbr in mind. I’m not doing the photos and challenges and all that, I’m just reading and plowing through as many arcs as I can, whilst uploading my reviews too. I’m two books in already so that’s a good start!

My dream is to get my feedback ratio from 14% to 45%. I’m crossing my fingers and hoping that I can see those numbers steadily rise (apart from those I’ve been approved for lol). I’d really love getting back to 80% but unless I work hard on it, it’s not going to happen. So. This month I’m working on making it my goal to read, read, read. No social media. No games. I’m holding myself accountable and I will get this goal met. Or die trying. Too dramatic? Maybe but I’m tired of those numbers staring at me in the face.

Just Finished Reading:

I finished this yesterday. In that I dnf’d because I was not by 40% of the book. RTC soon. (Also sorry about the cover size that’s the only one I could find!)

I’m about ten percent of the way through this. It’s starting off strong and most books published by Angry Robot I adore so why I haven’t read this yet I don’t know. Plus this cover feels just right with snow just around the corner! Inspired by Slavic Folklore? Yes please, sign me up!

My TBR:

These are the ten I hope to get to read this coming week. I’m hoping for a book a day, maybe two if I’m lucky. I’ve tried picking ones I’m truly interested in and hopefully I will manage to make a dent in my large tbr.

Until next time,

October 2022 TBR: Ambitious And Atmospheric Reads

Hello Everyone,

I’m skipping the September wrap up and I also am skipping the week long readathon. Blogging lately has been a challenge and I apologize for missing posts. I have a few ideas saved but I’m just not in the blogging mood. Instead I have great news.

MY READING SLUMP IS GONE!!!!!!

Now I’m cautious about my tbr for October. I’m heavily a mood reader at this point and I’m attempting to knock out books that have been on my tbr backlist for ages. I have split things into categories and I hope it makes this post easier to read.

Spooky Vibes:

Horror Reads:

Most Likely To Read:

Backlist Hopefuls:

Extras I Might Get To:

Those are all my hopefuls with a few I’m definitely getting to this month! Its currently October 9th and I have only read 4 books (my lowest amount for a while) and I’m hoping today that I can cram in a few more books. I have a large amount that I very much want to get to, as usual. I hope everyone has an enjoyable reading month and happy holidays!

Until next time,

Blogging Hiatus, Again

Hello Everyone,

I’m just not in the mood for blogging right now. I’m struggling against a massive reading slump coming on and I want to focus on one thing at a time and that’s my tbr. I’m hoping to put at least a monthly tbr up by tonight or tomorrow then I’ll be busy offline. Sorry everyone.

Until next time,

July TBR 2022: A Hefty Batch of New and Old Titles

Hello Everyone,

I’m feeling ambitious as usual but I figured out how to lock my computer so I can get off that and read more, mwahaha. As I don’t watch tv, I’m setting a challenge to read 50 books (again) and I’m determined to actually do it this time! Last time I managed exactly half. This time I’m aiming for a successful month to read all I can. Big or small, I’m eager to get through this hefty tbr! Let’s get to it shall we?

I know, I know. Many of you are probably screaming at me that I haven’t read any of these. I’ve put them off and put them off. Well no more! This isn’t the whole pile, fyi. I’ve a crapton of Kindle books I hope to get to also. And a few of these have been on my tbr again and again. I hope this is the last time, I really do.

My plan:

  • Three books a day unless it’s over 500+ pages
  • Write those reviews as soon as I finish reading
  • If I can’t stand the book, dnf at 100 pages
  • Read at least three hours a day (I’m a fast reader)
  • No computer, no tv until I finish a book, with exception of the news at nine pm as I catch the weather there.
  • If I successfully do this I earn an expensive $50 book of my choosing as a reward!

And that’s my goal for the month of July. It’s already July fifth and I’m currently reading Kaikeyi and loving it. It’s well over 500+ pages so it is a bit dense and taking me a bit to get through. Plus I had to pause for a family get together though we weren’t celebrating much in all honesty we were just talking about the future and enjoying good food. So. Fingers crossed that this works.

Are y’all reading anything this month that’s on my list? Let me know! I’d love to chat about it with you!

Until next time,

Current Reads: A Bit of Everything

Hello Everyone,

Tis I, the infrequent blogger returned once again! I feel like I haven’t posted a bit of what I’ve been reading so here. Lemme fix that! As there’s a historical readathon going on and Realmathon (which I’ve been sadly failing at) I hope to get more reading done soon! Here’s what I have open at the moment!

Look at me trying to make my own stickers!

Historical Fiction I’m reading:

These are just some of my hopefuls but I don’t know that I’ll get to all of them. And now onto my fantasy shelf!

Fantasy Novels I’m Reading:

All of these are huge, well over 300 pages but I hope to get through a few of them at least. I’ve been on a historical romance kick here lately and I’m flying through those for the historical romance readathon as that’s only a week long while Realmathon happens all month long. I’m barely into 50 pages for Grace of Kings, and I’m just starting the Hacienda. Both look to be good reads.

I’d love to know what you all are reading. Are you participating in any events? Readathons? Do let me know in the comments. Hit the like button and if you read this far I’d love it if you subscribed to my blog.

Until next time,

May 2022 TBR: Reading Big Books For May

Hello Everyone,

May has a lot of Readathons going on. There’s the Historical Romance Readathon going from the 9-15. There’s Realmathon happening throughout all the month of May. There’s also lots of others, that I may or may not join yet. I’m still deciding. But onto what I’m reading!

My Potentially Ambitious TBR:

This is the month that I’m determined to read all the big books that I’ve put off and put off and put off. I’m tired of staring at them and desiring them but not reading them. I’m also going to be reading a fair bit of historical romances as they go faster than the fantasy sometimes does. What are all of you reading? Let me know in the comments what I should make a priority!

Until next time,

My Bookshelf Tour: A Sneak Peak At My 2022 TBR

Hello everyone,

Today I thought I’d do a bookshelf tour of all the books that I have on my never ending tbr pile. I’m not the best photographer but I do hope that this is still an enjoyable post! I love seeing others shelves so feel free to share yours in the comments!

Up first, my tbr shelf. As I sadly don’t own an actual tbr cart (yet!) I’m doing a tbr shelf instead. Jade City is a buddy read and the rest are my priorities for the year. I’m hoping to get to all of them eventually. I just started Glory Season by David Brin too, and I hope to start City of Brass soon as well.

The other half of my immediate tbr shelf! I have read Red Rising but never finished the series and remember nothing of book one so I’m due for a reread. I also adore Sebastian de Castell and really want to finish that series this year.

My second shelf of priorities is a mixed bag of tricks! I’ve got fantasy and thrillers, scifi and ya. I really need to catch up with Red Sister by Mark Lawrence, and there’s lots of others I want to read too!

The other half of the above shelf. Need I say more? Actually that Ken Follet book is book three. Books one and two I don’t own yet. The other Sharon Shinn books of that series are in my room… somewhere.

All my big books I’m intimidated by! 😳

The other half of my scary shelf. Jade City is currently being read (finally!).

My assorted, disorganized new books. Mostly historical fiction, mysteries and thrillers.

There you guys go! That’s my current tbr piles. Not my whole library then this post will be much longer! Hopefully you spot something to add to your own tbrs! Let me know what you think about this post in the comments! Good bad needs work? Lol.

Until next time,

WWW Wednesday: How is it Wednesday again already?!?

Hello everyone,

Its time for another round of WWW Wednesday! I’ve only read three books this past week, but one was a classic. Here are the books that I finished reading!

What did I finish reading?

Silver in the Wood by Emily Tesh is a five star read. Romeo and Juliet was better than I remembered while sadly Psalm for the Wild Built wasn’t what I hoped it would be and I dnf’d it.

What am I currently reading?

These three are buddy reads! I’m at 120 pages of Jade City, I just started the Diviners and I have yet to start Bone Witch though that will change soon!

These are the books I’m currently working on. All of these apart from Glory Season and Battlemage are relatively short. I’m trying to really read a lot this week and get up to 50 books but not just reading short fiction. My plan is to read a bunch of short things with a couple big things in between and it seems to be working in getting rid of my slumps at last!

What am I reading next?

A lot of backlog titles I’m trying to get to. I really hope to read The Last Cuentista and The Stars Are Legion most of all.

What are all of you reading? Anything good? Let me know in the comments. I’m hoping to seriously thin down my tbr this year. I’m very tired of the backlog just glaring at me. Time to actually get some reading done this year!

Until next time,

WWW Wednesday: I only read 3 books last week? ðŸ˜¬

Hello Everyone,

It’s time for another WWW Wednesday! I’m shocked by how little I read last week but then it’s almost Thanksgiving so maybe not so surprising. Stress and family make a huge difference in how much reading I get done apparently. Who knew? 🤔

What am I currently reading:

I’m really trying to get back into the reading groove! Hopefully these lovelies will help!

What did I receive finish reading?

Apparently not much read this week! Two five star books and the inside ring I dnf’d sadly. Political thrillers aren’t much my thing, though some are awesome this just didn’t work for me.

What will I read next?:

I’m hoping for a lot of arcs/series catch up!

I sincerely hope to read more this week but thanks to it being Thanksgiving I doubt I’ll manage much at all. I will have a lot more to do with it being the holidays.

A special note from Pass Me That Book…I hope everyone reading this has a happy Thanksgiving, or any other holiday that you celebrate during this time. I hope all of you get a good meal and a safe place to sleep. Please stay safe out there, y’all. Happy reading and I won’t be back on until December.

Happy holidays!
